new ideas

I have found this jacket, by John Galliano for Dior, intriguing since I first saw it in the magazine Town and Country. It is available, at Dior boutiques, retail - a cool $4190. So, If I am to own this lovely, I must make it. However, what fabric?
Well, SawyerBrook just put this on their website, at an affordable price. I've seen this fabric locally, it is every bit as pretty as it is in the picture, and the tiny matelasse texture is perfect, however, locally it is $44.95 / yd.
Do I Need it? Non, mes amies. But, has it ever been a question of need?

Hmmmm . . . both are really lovely. I'm not a "flowers on clothes" person as a rule, but this is very tempting. The jacket is really something else! I think it would be an garment to try to copy.

What a great design! The jacket is a must. Whatever fabric you use will be gorgeous because of the style.

(sorry I deleted my previous post because I called you Marfy instead of Marji, lol) That jacket is fabulous and I agree with you when you say it's not a question of need!

It definitely looks like something you'd wear and look good in. The fabric is beautiful. My questions is, are you going to be able to find some shoes to go with this?

Has it EVER been a question of NEED?

Dear Marji,
Your Chanel jacket is incredibly beautiful, I adore it. And the turquoise suit is so beautiful and looks really great on you.
I would like your advice on something. Could you recommend a book on couture techniques and maybe on sewing a Chanel jacket too?
Thanks a lot
Laura Lo

Marji- I love the fabric, and the $4000.00+ dollars you'll be saving yourself doesn't hurt.

You NEED it, sweetie.

That will be a beautiful jacket. Of course it isn't a question of *need.* All we *need*, is food and shelter. But how proud of yourself you'll be after you create that gorgeous wearable! I believe I'll head out to the fabric store today...

Hmmm, I think the only "need" is what do I need to offer that would convince you to make one of those jackets for me. ;)

I have a John Galliano knitted jacket pattern that was in British Elle circa 2002. You weave in distressed silk ribbon all over it--let me know if you're interested. As for that stunning jacket, I can only dream of the day that I could sew that well. Go for it!

Yes. You need it. And new shoes to match, of course!

Hmmm. I too saved that photo of the Dior jacket. I bought the same fabric as well, although it never occurred to me to combine the two. It will be perfect, and wonderful on you.
