In Memorium

We watched the annual Memorial Day concert in Washington DC last night, and Sarah Brightman performed this moving Requiem.

Although Memorial Day isn't really for another 4 days, because we're celebrating it here in the USA today, I bring you this from Sarah Brightman and Youtube.

This has been one of my favourite AL Webber pieces for the longest time. Ms Brightman (formerly Mrs Webber) has a glorious voice that's marvelously well suited to the piece. Another version recorded by her several years prior, quite a different interpretation but also a joy, is this one:

Lovely Marji. Our girls all sang Requiem with their high school choir in Europe, Erica even got to sing it for Pope John Paul II and her choir had a private audience with him.
