Shopping lists and recipes and Magazine back issues

Progress
The boat cushions are well underway. Yeah!!
Pics early this afternoon if I can get that organized. Today is the first day off work in awhile. Between the pant class I'm teaching, a zipper class I taught Monday, my regular job, and making boat cushions, I've been keeping busy.
MissD, you have a package coming as soon as this pant class is finished. ;)

And today I have 4 "kids" coming for the Easter weekend. And if my thinking is right, 3 dogs. Our quiet household is going to get unquiet, quickly.
So this AM I'm organizing the menus for the weekend, and going shopping.

I have years - boxes and boxes worth of cooking magazines downstairs. As I was going through my back Spring issues of Saveur Cooks this AM, I found out they have a website. (duh moment, of course they do.)

http://www.saveur.com/

It's awesome.
I've known for quite some time that Bon Appetit and Gourmet recipes are to be found on Epicurious.com.
and...
Taunton Press has just released a CD/DVD of all 15 years worth of Fine Cooking. for only $99.95.
Dh is getting it for me for Easter or Birthday or maybe just May Day.

I'm so excited (I know, doesn't take much, does it?)

And, now I can get rid of all those boxes of paper mags in the basement, without the angst that accompanies the thought of never having that info again.

Anyone want to start a letter/email writing campaign to Taunton Press to get them to issue 150 back issues of Threads on a DVD set?
Would you pay $100 to own a complete set of Threads on DVD? I would! In fact, I have, many times over, in that I've paid +/- $4 for each magazine, and have most of them, starting with issue #1.
The information in them is invaluable.
Leave a comment here if you would, and I'll pass this blog post on to Taunton, and while you're at it, dash off a quick email to PublicRelations@taunton.com

Back to writing the shopping list.
If I don't get back this afternoon with pics of the cushion progess, Have a Happy Easter.
And if you don't celebrate Easter, at least have a wonderful weekend.

The email to Tauton is a fantastic idea. Happy Easter to you and your family.

I would absolutely pay $100 for all digitized copies of Threads. "The Best of" series doesn't cut it, as only I know what I deem "best", but for All, oh yeah.
And I like the "Fine Cooking" set. Gift idea for Father's Day....

I'd love to be able to purchase all of the Threads magazines on CD - would be money well spent.

Threads on CD = less clutter in my house (which would be sublime). I would be more than willing to pay $100 (especially since my collection starts at #17 and I have several other gaps that I'd love to fill).

Threads on CD would indeed be fantastic, I'm with Shannon. Lots less clutter for me, too. Great idea.

I, too, would pay for a complete collection of Threads. As a long time subscriber, I have most issues but they would be much more accessible on a CD/DVD. Thanks for starting this campaign, Marji.

The run of Threads on DVD? ABSOLUTELY! I have every issue, and would love to see the whole shebang in digial form.

A full set of Threads? Oh yeah!!! Some of the early issues are impossible to find and I'd love to have a complete set. And $100 is a quite reasonable cost.
Complete, though, is the operative word... like BeeBee my "best" and theirs doesn't always mesh.
I'll be sending a direct email soon.

I have them all but I'd still like to have the complete set of Threads. That's a definite yes.

Yes, a thousand times yes. I'm missing some of the earlier issues and would love to have a complete set. Happy Easter!

I would definitely buy a Threads archive DVD. In a NY minute. I am missing a few years and the rest are in several boxes all over the place!

I would most definitely pay $100 for a DVD of the Threads issues. The information contained in those magazines is priceless.

As always, you are such a busy bee. I love the planning for a special dinner, like Easter. Of course, it's always a lot of work, but I have so much fun with it. I'm looking forward to our Easter Dinner this weekend.

I wish they'd put lots of magazines on dvd/cd. I'd love Piecework (wouldn't give a hoot for Vogue Knitting or Knitters of recent years, but further back would love). I think I'm going to have to look into that Fine Cooking DVD set. Looks well worth it to me.

Happy Easter!

I find the idea of a Threads DVD very interesting. As mentioned before, I am missing several of the first couple years. I have the rest, but a DVD would be so convenient. I would buy it.

Hi - this is a fantastic idea - especially for someone like me who lives in Europe an has basically no chance to get a Threads magazine - unless to get a subscription.... The ones I have seen at friends or while being in the US are fantastic - we don't have anything comparable ove here in Germany....

That's a fantastic idea! It would be easier to access and much less clutter. Count me in on this campaign!

I don't have the earliest ones, but my collection takes up an awful lot of room. To have them on a searchable dvd would be lovely. All the earliest ones, where you forget to even look for the information would be so much easier to access.
have a great holiday

What a splendid idea! All the information in one place, easy to find what you want, and no paper magazines cluttering up the sewing room. Perfect!

It would be fantastic to be able to have such a resource at our fingertips. I was hoping they had that idea themselves when I saw the whole collection of Fine Cooking, but I say let's give them all the encouragement we can!

I would dearly love to have Threads on DVD and would pay handsomely for it. Love Threads.

Put me on the request list! I have all but the first 13 issues, but I would love them on CD. My shelf space is primo, and I'd love to be able to search. Great idea. K

My very first thought was "in a NY minute"... echoed loudly by the 23 folks who posted ahead of me.

I agree, I would pay the money even if just to be able to free up the shelves that house my collection.

I would happily pay for all the Threads back issues on DVD! I hadn't discovered sewing yet when they first came out and I would love to have digital access to all the issues.

Happy Easter!

I have all but issue #9. Even though I love reading all my Threads it does make sense to have it all on dvd. Yes I'm with you on this one.

Brigitte said...

Can you imagine if they did that for Vogue Knitting?!!

Mardel said...

Well I have them all but I would pay for the whole thing on a CD in a flash. It would make it all so much more accessible and easy to find exactly what you want.

I owuld totally go for the back issues of Threads on DVD too! What a great idea!

Happy Easter Marji! I would pay for Threads on DVD too. I do not have the earlier ones that I hear are the best.

Caity said...

I would LOVE to be able to buy all of Threads on DVD - especially since my collection only runs from about issue #60 to the current one.

$4 per issue?!?! I've paid an average of $Au 15 for every single one of those 82 issues that I own! That's - um - lots! And if they provided a searchable index on that DVD (especially considering their "online index" stops somewhere around issue #106) then I would FIND the money!

Hi,
Jessica Aframe here from the Taunton Press. I'm happy to let you know that we are producing a Threads archive collection that will be available around Thanksgiving. Once it's available on our site for ordering, I will post a comment here.

Yes that's a great idea, I've just started sewing, I could easily spend a few hours just reading nonstop about sewing, I'm self taught so I can't wait for the magazine issues to come out, now with a DVD, I would have a whole lot of reading at once. I would definately buy this DVD.

Just sent Threads another chime in email for an archive DVD.
